This isn't about bar hopping or organized nightlife. You're learning to move through the nocturnal city as an observer and documenter. The skills stack quickly: understanding which neighborhoods come alive after dark, reading street dynamics for safety, capturing light in ways your phone's auto mode can't handle, and recognizing the patterns of night workers, insomniacs, and other explorers who own these hours. The barrier isn't danger—it's knowing where to look and how to move. Most people stick to the same lit corridors they use during the day. You'll learn to map alternative routes through night markets, 24-hour diners, late-shift industrial zones, and residential blocks where different communities gather after traditional hours. Every city has multiple night layers operating simultaneously.
Scout your route during daylight first. Walk it completely, noting lighting conditions, exit points, 24-hour businesses for potential shelter, and areas that feel exposed. Mark your map with street lights, cameras, and clusters of activity. This isn't paranoia—it's reconnaissance.
