Japanese pull saw

A thin-blade saw that cuts on the pull stroke rather than push, giving better control and cleaner cuts than western-style saws. Essential for precise joinery and detail woodworking.

What to look for

  1. 1SK5 high-carbon steel blade (holds edge)
  2. 2Double-edged with different teeth per inch (TPI) on each side
  3. 36-9" blade length for control without excessive flex
  4. 4Replaceable blade design
  5. 514-17 TPI on fine side, 8-12 TPI on coarse

Skip

  • Very long blades (>12")—hard to control for beginners
  • Single-edge saws (limits versatility)
  • Non-replaceable blade designs

Used for: Precise woodworking joinery · Dovetail and tenon cutting · Detail trim work · Mindful hand-tool practice
