1. Agreement and who can use the service
These terms are an agreement between you and IRL Sidequests (“we”, “us”), operated from Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. They apply to irlsidequests.com, the emails we send, and the IRL Sidequests plugin for AI assistants (together, “the service”). By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 13 to use the service. The quests are written for adults; if you are under 18, do them with a parent or guardian’s permission and, where appropriate, their supervision.
2. What we provide
IRL Sidequests is a free catalog of real-life side quests, gear guides and gear types, plus tools such as the generator, the Today page and the assistant plugin.
Much of our content is created with the help of AI tools and published by automated systems. We work to keep it accurate and safe, but it can contain mistakes or go out of date. Treat it as inspiration and a starting point, not expert instruction. We may add, change or remove content and features at any time, and we do not promise that the service will always be available.
3. Side quests are at your own risk
Every quest describes an activity in the real world: walking, climbing, foraging, exploring, meeting people, using tools. We write them to be safe and we include safety notes, but we cannot see where you are, what the conditions are, or what shape you are in. You alone decide whether an activity is legal, safe and suitable for you, and you are responsible for:
- checking local laws, property rules and any permits or permission you need;
- respecting private property, protected places and other people;
- the weather, your equipment and your own abilities; and
- anyone you bring along.
You accept the risk of injury, loss or damage that can come with these activities. Nothing on the service is medical, legal, safety or other professional advice. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
4. Gear, prices and affiliate links
Gear is described by type: what it is, what to look for, and roughly what it costs. Where we name a current pick, it is one option that meets the description, not a guarantee of quality, fit, safety, availability or price. Prices and ratings shown are approximate and may be out of date; the price at the retailer’s checkout is the one that applies.
As an Amazon Associate, IRL Sidequests earns from qualifying purchases made through links on the service. The price you pay is the same. A purchase is a contract between you and the retailer under its own terms: we are not the seller and are not responsible for products, their delivery or their safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions and warnings before using any product.
5. Accounts and email
You can sign in with a one-time link sent to your email address; there is no password. Keep your email address accurate and protect access to your inbox, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You are responsible for activity under your account.
We send sign-in emails only when you request them, and the weekly digest only if you opt in. Every digest has an unsubscribe link, and you can change the preference on your account page. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. The Privacy policy explains how we handle your data and how to delete your account.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, scrape or republish the catalog in bulk, or build a competing dataset from it. Search-engine and AI crawling that respects our robots.txt is welcome, and so is quoting and linking with attribution;
- interfere with the service, including by circumventing rate limits, probing non-public parts of the site, or sending abusive volumes of requests;
- use the service to send unsolicited email, or sign up with an email address you do not control;
- misrepresent your relationship with us, or use our name or branding in a way that suggests endorsement; or
- use the service for anything unlawful, or to plan or carry out harm to any person, property or place.
7. The assistant plugin
The IRL Sidequests plugin for AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude and others) is read-only and anonymous. It returns quests and gear types from this catalog and links back to this website. It is provided as-is, may be changed or withdrawn at any time, and every disclaimer in these terms applies to what it returns. Your assistant provider’s own terms also govern your use of the assistant. You may not use the plugin to scrape the catalog or to resell its content.
8. Content and intellectual property
The quests, guides, text, images, design and code of the service belong to IRL Sidequests or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Product names, images and trademarks belong to their owners.
We grant you a personal, non-commercial license to read, print and share pages for your own use. You may quote excerpts and link to any page with attribution. For commercial use, licensing or partnerships, email us. If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
If you believe something on the service infringes your copyright, email hello@irlsidequests.com with the page URL, a description of your work and your contact details, and we will look into it promptly.
9. Third-party sites and services
The service links to Amazon and other websites, and is available through AI assistants run by other companies. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, products, practices or policies. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.
10. No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that any quest is safe or lawful where you are, that any product will suit you, or that the service will be error-free or uninterrupted.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, IRL Sidequests and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill or profits, arising from your use of the service, any activity or product described on it, or any third-party site, however caused. Our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to US $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits; where that is the case they apply to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Your responsibility for misuse
If your breach of these terms or your misuse of the service leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover the resulting costs and damages, including reasonable legal fees.
13. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account as described in the Privacy policy. We may suspend or end your access, or the service itself, at any time, with or without notice, including for a breach of these terms. The sections on risk, intellectual property, warranties, liability, misuse, governing law and general terms survive termination.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New Hampshire, whose jurisdiction you accept. If you are a consumer in the EEA, the UK or another place with mandatory consumer protections, nothing here takes those away, and you may be able to bring a claim in your home courts. Before going to court, please email us; most problems can be sorted out directly.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the date at the top is the version that applies. For material changes we will post a notice on the site or email account holders. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
16. General
These terms and the Privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor who takes over the service.
