Unmounted linoleum block (6x8 inch)

A flat sheet of carvable linoleum without backing. Easier to carve than mounted blocks, can be cut to custom sizes, and soft enough for beginners while holding detail better than rubber alternatives.

What to look for

  1. 1Battleship gray color—easier to see carved lines than tan
  2. 21/8-inch thickness—thinner is floppy, thicker fights your tools
  3. 3Unmounted so you can cut custom sizes and carve on both sides
  4. 4Pack of at least two blocks for test runs before final prints

Skip

  • Mounted blocks glued to wood—harder to carve and can't be cut
  • Rubber or foam substitutes—they compress and lose detail

Used for: carving neighborhood texture patterns · testing designs before printing multiples · creating custom print blocks for repeated use
