Ruled index cards (3x5 inch, color-coded)

Standard 3×5 inch note cards with horizontal lines, sold in packs with multiple colors. The physical cards let you write, shuffle, and rearrange ideas, while color-coding creates an instant visual sorting system.

What to look for

  1. 1At least 4 different colors in the pack—gives you enough categories without overwhelming choice
  2. 2Ruled lines (not blank) if you're writing more than a few words per card
  3. 3Thick enough to handle repeatedly (100+ gsm paper weight / cardstock feel)
  4. 450+ cards per color minimum so you don't run out mid-project

Skip

  • Packs with only pastel or very light colors—harder to tell apart at a glance
  • Perforated cards or spirals (those are for different uses)

Used for: sorting and reordering story beats or presentation structure · brainstorming and categorizing project ideas · creating teaching prompts or activity stations · organizing recipes or plant identification notes by category
