Foam core board (20x30 inch)
Lightweight rigid panels with white on one side and black on the other (or white both sides). Bounces or blocks light when positioned near your subject, controlling shadows and highlights.
What to look for
- 120x30 inch or larger (smaller boards don't cover enough area)
- 23/16 inch thickness minimum (stays upright, doesn't flop)
- 3True white surface, not cream (reflects neutral light)
- 4Black reverse side available (gives you shadow control too)
Skip
- Thin boards that warp or bend too easily
- Expensive photo-specific versions (craft store boards work fine)
