Pre-cut wooden components (spindle, hearth board, bow, and handle) with proper dimensions and wood species for friction fire-starting. Eliminates carving mistakes so you can focus on learning the actual technique.

What to look for

  1. 1Spindle diameter around 3/4 inch with straight grain
  2. 2Hearth board in softer wood than spindle (basswood or cedar common)
  3. 3Bow length 18-24 inches with cordage pre-attached
  4. 4Socket or bearing block included (stone or hardwood)

Skip

  • Kits with treated or painted wood (chemicals prevent friction)
  • Mixed hardwood sets where wood types aren't labeled
  • Synthetic cordage that melts from friction heat
