Picture six friends in bright bandanas sprinting between a coffee shop and a bookstore, arguing about whether a photo counts. That's the whole afternoon, and it's a blast. One person becomes Game Master and writes 15 to 20 challenges worth different points, from quick five-pointers to big 50-point stunts. Teams of two to four go hunting with phones and come back with proof. You don't need to be clever or fast to do well, just willing to look a little ridiculous in public. Pick your Game Master first, because that person does the fun work of inventing the challenges. Essentials: a set of colored bandanas so every team is identifiable in photos, a shared photo album everyone can upload to, a phone per team, and a map of your chosen 8 to 12 block area. Someone has to run this, and it's the best seat in the house. The Game Master doesn't compete. Instead they draw a boundary of 8 to 12 walkable blocks, set up a shared photo album for proof, and start inventing challenges. Pick whoever loves a good scheme. They also collect everyone's phone number before anyone leaves.
Here's where the game gets its personality. Build 15 to 20 challenges across three tiers: Quick Hits worth 5 to 10 points, Photo Evidence worth 15 to 25, and Boss Challenges worth 30 to 50. Quick Hits are easy sightings. Photo Evidence needs a timestamped photo. Boss Challenges need a witness signature or a short video.
Split into teams of two to four and hand each team a different colored bandana to wear. It makes you look like you're actually in a game, which strangers respond to surprisingly well. Then read the house rules out loud: teams stay together, feet and transit only, willing participants only, stay inside the boundary.
Start the 90-minute clock and send teams out at two-minute intervals so nobody just follows the group ahead. The Game Master holds the rally point, watches photos roll into the shared album, and answers rule questions by group text. At the 45-minute mark every team texts in. Then the sprint for Boss Challenge points begins.
Everyone back at the rally point, bandanas on, photos up on the biggest screen you've got. Walk through each team's proof one by one and call the points out loud. If anyone disputes a photo, teammates vote. Then the real award: everyone votes on the single best fail photo of the day, and that team gets the honor of choosing the boundary zone next time.
