Hand trowel
Small pointed shovel for digging planting holes, mixing soil, and transplanting in tight spaces. Carbon steel blades handle hard or rocky soil better than stamped aluminum.
What to look for
- 1Carbon steel blade (won't bend in hard soil or roots)
- 2Cushioned or wrapped handle grip (prevents blisters during repetitive digging)
- 3Pointed tip, not rounded (gets into compacted earth)
- 4One-piece construction or welded tang (handle won't snap off blade)
Skip
- Stamped thin aluminum (bends on first rock encounter)
- Overly large 'hand shovels' that won't fit in tight planting spots
Used for: Digging small planting holes in public spaces · Mixing soil and clay for seed bombs · Transplanting seedlings into tight spots
