Carving pumpkin
A large, thin-walled pumpkin grown for carving rather than eating. It gives each person a sturdy canvas for cutting or shaving a face design.
What to look for
- 1at least one flat, smooth side for the design
- 2firm, unbruised skin with no soft spots
- 3sturdy green stem and a stable base that sits upright
- 4size large enough for the planned design (roughly 10–15 in tall)

- small sugar or pie pumpkins with thick, dense walls that are hard to carve
- pumpkins with cuts or soft spots that rot quickly once carved
