Black velvet fabric (1 yard)

Light-absorbing fabric that creates professional photography backgrounds by eliminating reflections. The pile texture prevents the sheen that makes other black materials show up gray in photos.

What to look for

  1. 1Cotton or cotton-blend velvet (not polyester suede) for true light absorption
  2. 2Dense pile with no visible backing showing through
  3. 3At least 45" width for versatility in background setups
  4. 4Fabric weight around 10-15 oz/yard for draping without sagging

Skip

  • Foam-backed automotive headliner material—too stiff and reflects light differently than proper velvet
  • Crushed or panne velvet which creates directional sheen instead of uniform darkness

Used for: Creating deep black photography backgrounds · Eliminating reflections behind reflective subjects · Isolating subjects in product photography
